Human torch or self-immolation is by far the most gruesome and the most heart wrenching way of expressing annexation of human freedom of any forms. The shared nature of such incident chills the bone of anyone, let alone thinking about pouring petrol or benzene and then lighting it up to experience the pain that would be humanly impossible to endure. It is absolutely beyond my sensorial capacity to imagine the force that has inspired people to resort to such violent act.
Fear is actually the biggest factor that helps life biologically to sustain and one of our biggest fear, since the evolution was the fear of fire, but to be engulfed by fire voluntarily is something that I could not get my brains on. Unarguably the condition under which people resort to such act needs to be scrutinized and understood, however the determination to carry out such act comes in my opinion not from the body but rather from something else. Our biological fear is undermined by our intellectual concept such as pride, freedom, dignity and rights.
To become fearless, you have to be either very spiritual or very egotist, Spiritual fearlessness is intellectually healthy and the actions are oriented towards other rather than self. However, on the other hand egotist fearlessness is dangerous and has intellectually no basis of reason. It is therefore in my utmost concern about why and with what sort of mental state, my fellow brothers and sister commits such act. If one does self-immolate with his or her mind calm and heart full of compassion, then the action would be intellectually justifiable despite of it being gruesomeness. However, if one commits such act in anger or desperation then at some point during the process his or her mind would be in disturbed state and being a Buddhist, one would not want to be in such state at the very last minute of one’s life.
I have personally thought about the mind set of such people and intellectually tried to imagine myself in it, I may not be at this moment spiritually elevated and egoistically degraded, therefore I found nothing of any sort to explicitly determined me to believe in such act even for better cause. Therefore, I would urge my precious fellow Tibetans not to dangled one’s mind around such concept if you are not spiritually elevated. There are other means through which you can impact with the same intensity, which would be reasonable and approachable even to people with normal mentality. We must channelize the energy of any sort of desperation in establishing a mental framework in producing an innovative solution to our problems rather than destroying the innovator. Make education your tool and let the fire burn not your body but your heart to push your wheel of intelligence in the direction of wonders.
Tibet will then not only be free but also be full with bright and wonderful people.
FIRE YOUR HEART WITH SOLIDARITY OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND DO EXCEL IN WHATEVER FIELD YOU ARE IN//// LET THAT FIRE BE YOUR ENGINE AND MOTIVATION.
